Over a Year Later....

Well, I didn't realize that I hadn't written anything in over a year until someone told me "Everything Changes except your blog." I couldn't argue. I guess things have just been busy. I never really figured out how to get this to look the way I wanted it to either. Oh well... I suppose an update is in order for the two people who occasionally read this, if they haven't given up on me completely.

I moved to Birmingham back in May to start my rotations for my last year of pharmacy school. They are going great and I only have one more to go after this month! Graduation is on May 6th. I never thought that it would get here really... I remember walking home from one of my first chemistry classes crying and thinking to myself that I would never get through it and there was no way that I could take 6 years of chemistry. Well, make it 7 years and here I am. It has all paid off but it doesn't even seem real to me yet.

In June Ben asked me to marry him and we have set the date for May 31st. Yes, there is a lot going on in May! The wedding planning process has been a whirlwind. Trying to finish the requirements for my P4 year, build a house, do premarital counseling in another city, have a fiance in another city, and plan a wedding that is in another city has been very difficult. Sometimes I feel like I must be out of my mind to try to do so much at once, but I know it will all be worth it. Ben and I can't wait to live in the same town and have our own house!

Back in October Ben and I got a dog named Pete who was named by his previous owners. He's a lab mix and he's been the best dog! We are crazy about him. Ben keeps him and takes him everywhere he goes. The dog is obsessed with Ben as well and doesn't really mind me when Ben is around. He's been a lot of fun for the both of us!

In January I got sick with the flu and it was no fun at all to say the least. I ended up in the hospital for about 24 hours and then the doctors discovered that I have a rare genetic blood disorder called Hereditary Spherocytosis. No worries though, I may have to get my spleen removed in the future, but that's the worst of it.

So, that's the update of my life in a nutshell. I am eventually going to change this blog to mine and Ben's blog, but that will come later. Hopefully it won't be a whole year until the next update!

Hiya - congrats on the wedding, move, graduating - thats a lot in several months ! Just a wee note as I see you have been diagnosed with HS. My blog shows me when someone writes about it in another blog.
I was diagnosed as a kid in Ireland as my Mum has it and also my sister now and her two kids both have it. We just had a son but he seems to have escaped it (50% chance of inheriting it with it being autosomonal dominant. We had the spleens removed and means you have to be careful around flus or any encapsulated virus. Also now they may do a partial spleenectomy as can still prevent the worse of the red blood cells being destroyed but still leave you the function of the spleen. Also they normally take your gall bladder out as well if they take your spleen. They didnt but now its standard as the extra bilirubin count usually gives you gallstones anyway so better to get it out at same time. Best of luck - been living with HS for 36 years and my Mum longer. You may need to try and take it easy around all thats going on and rest a bit more as stressful situations usually run down your immune system (I know with all you have going on thats hard but try and sneak in rest in between). So are you the first in your family or is there a history? My Mum was the first they could find so I lovingly call her the mutant ;-)

Best of luck and hello from California :-)
